Create interactive, hands-on science lessons in minutes
Your prep time is valuable. With PocketLab Notebook you can create digital science lessons called Lab Reports and assign them to students in minutes. Start with a template or build your own from scratch, import existing lesson plans or other documents, pull in videos and images, add Data Collection cards, Question cards, Data Tables, and more to create an engaging, hands-on science experience.
Save time with ready-to-go lessons
Choose from hundreds of free hands-on Lab Report lessons to use with PocketLab Notebook. Browse our library for the perfect Lab Report lesson, add it to your account, customize it to fit the needs of your students, and assign it to your classroom instantly.
Authentic Data Collection Integrated with Sensors and Probeware
PocketLab Sensors
Connect a PocketLab sensor directly into a PocketLab Notebook lesson for real-time data collection right in a Lab Report lesson. Our family of sensors includes an all-in-one physics sensor, an environmental science sensor, a low-cost weather sensor, and more.
No Sensor, No Problem
Students can enter data manually to create interactive Data Tables, Bar Graphs, and Scatter Plots. PocketLab Notebook can also use sensors that are built into phones and computers to record measurement data.
Use What You've Got
Do you have other, non-PocketLab measurement sensors? With PocketLab Notebook you can import .csv files to graph data from any data collection device. It’s never been easier for students to collect authentic data and use it to investigate a scientific question.
Teacher Dashboard: Monitor Student Progress and Provide Formative Feedback
From your teacher dashboard, instantly assign hands-on Lab Report lessons to your students to work on in their PocketLab Notebook. Monitor the class progress from the Lab Report assignment dashboard or pull up individual and group Lab Reports to give real-time feedback.
Lab Groups: Enable 100% participation and true collaboration among students
All Lab Report lessons can be assigned to students as either Group Work or Individual Work. When students work together on a Lab Report they collaboratively collect data, analyze data, test hypotheses, answer questions, and more.
PocketLab Notebook's tools allow for students to individually or collaboratively answer questions in group settings. PocketLab Notebook creates an inclusive learning experience by enabling all students to investigate scientific questions and participate in every Lab Report lesson.
Backed by in-depth research
The PocketLab Notebook was developed through grants with the National Science Foundation and the Institute of Education Sciences at the Department of Education and in partnership with WestEd Research. The Notebook beta version was piloted with hundreds of middle school students to increase their engagement in the NGSS science and engineering practices. In preliminary feedback, 71% of the 350 student participants responded that they actually enjoyed the lab report process while using PocketLab Notebook! Imagine if your students actually enjoyed documenting their labs!? The hands-on experiments are the fun part, but lots of the learning comes in the rigorous process of scientific reporting.
Create your Free Account to Start Exploring
You can create a free individual PocketLab Notebook account to explore much of the functionality of the new software including: accessing the resource library, saving PocketLab sensor data, creating custom lab reports. You can also request a 30 day trial of Notebook Pro which gives you additional features in the Teacher Dashboard and the ability to create Student Accounts.
